Welcome to Violet and Iris, I'm Katie and this is my online store where you will find all my handmade creations. I am based in the small rural village of Sheinton in the beautiful Shropshire countryside.
Thinking back through my life, I have always loved to make stuff. At school enjoyed all the hands on creative subjects like CDT, Textiles and Art. Other inspiration came from my mom, she's super talented and remember her sewing things like curtains, lampshades and cushions and My Nan who loved to knit and sew, I have fond memories of me sitting in front of her Singer sewing and her patiently teaching me how to make Scrunchies and flower hair accessories with ribbons that would flow through your ponytail.
My obsession with everything home came from watching the TV series Changing Rooms way back in the late 1990's, it sparked such an interest that in the year 2000 until 2005, I went to night school and gained 7802/ 7900 part & 2 in Interior Design, which was amazing and an escape from my day job, where I worked in an Office.
In 2006 I put my crafting skills to use and made my own wedding invitations and from then my obsession for making grew. I would make gifts such as personalised framed pictures, birthstone jewellery, candles and cards for family and friends.
Skipping forward a few years in 2016 was made redundant from full time employment in Local Government which was stressful at the time but a blessing in disguise, it gave me time off with my then little girl and allowed me to evaluate my life as a Mom.
I decided to have a go at starting a small handmade business and this is when Violet and Iris was born, the name was inspired the by my Daughter Emily, her middle name is Iris and her birth flower is a Violet.
More recently I have studied floristry and garden maintenance online, my interest for growing and drying my own flowers for my Dried floral Collection is expanding with lots of plans future products
